The Sheriff's Office Victim Assistance program provides crisis intervention to victims of all violent crime, including robbery, domestic violence, battery, and homicide. The program, staffed by specially trained civilian members, is available to respond to a crime scene at the request of a detective or supervisor.
Three full-time victim assistants provide support for victims, such as initiating referrals for services, explaining criminal justice procedures pertaining to cases, and attending court hearings with victims. They assist victims with filing for victim's compensation through a trust fund managed by the Florida Attorney General's office. The fund reimburses violent crime victims in paying for stipulated expenses they incur because of the crime. Victim assistants also serve as a liaison between victims and the criminal justice system.
Citizens seeking assistance in filing injunctions for protection are requested to contact any of our Victim Assistant's at the contact information below.
