Law enforcement agencies benefit from a workforce that reflects the communities they serve and by creating supportive work environments for all members. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office actively recruits and promotes women. Please read the biographical information presented below regarding women who are making valuable contributions to the agency.
Lieutenant Stephanie Wile joined the Sheriff’s Office in 1995 as a non-certified detention deputy and graduated from the corrections academy only a few months later. She also attended Warner Southern College throughout this time and graduated with honors in 1996 earning a Bachelor of Arts degree.
After completing the corrections academy, she was assigned for nearly two years to the Booking Unit. During this period, she served as a field training officer for new detention deputies. Then she was assigned to the Accreditation Unit. In this capacity she helped prepare the detention facility for its initial accreditation with the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission (FCAC), a status it received in 2000. As an active recruiter for the Sheriff’s Office, she attended job fairs and visited law enforcement and corrections academies to assist the agency in the recruitment of new members.
In 2000, she was promoted to sergeant and was reassigned to the Jail Operations Division as a supervisor.
The next year she was reassigned to supervisory duties in the Booking Unit, where she remained until her promotion to lieutenant in 2003. At that time, she was assigned to the Jail Operations Division. In 2004, she became supervisor of the Classification and Booking Units. Currently, she is assigned to the Jail Operations Division.
Lt. Wile has been an active member of the Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard since 2000. She also is an adjunct faculty member at Indian River Community College, teaching in the basic corrections academies. In addition to her other responsibilities, she has served as an assessor with FCAC for the past few years. Recently, she received jail inspector’s certification. Over the years, Lt. Wile has completed numerous training classes and seminars. She plans to pursue a master’s degree in the near future.
During her employment with the Sheriff’s Office, Lt. Wile has been the recipient of several departmental awards. She was named detention deputy of the quarter in 1998 and received a life saving award in 2004. The Honor Guard, of which she is a member, recently was awarded a unit citation.
Deputy Shirley Lindstadt
Deputy Shirley Lindstadt began her law enforcement career in 1988 as a dispatcher with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). In 1990, she earned her law enforcement certification and became a trooper.
In 1996, she became a traffic homicide investigator and was later certified as a traffic reconstructionist. She was also a certified firearms instructor and a field training officer. In 2000, she was nominated for the Palm Beach Post Distinguished Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award and that same year was recognized as both the One Hundred Club Trooper of the Year and the American Legion Post #40 Officer of the Year.
In 2003, after fifteen years with FHP, Deputy Lindstadt joined the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office and was assigned to the Patrol Operations Division where she conducted pro-active patrols and answered calls for service. In the spring of 2005, she was reassigned to the School Resource Unit, providing law enforcement service and addressing the safety and security of students and school personnel.
She became certified in 2005 to instruct students in Gang Resistance and Education Training (G.R.E.A.T.). Presently, she is assigned to Savanna Ridge and White City Elementary Schools.
In addition to a strong commitment to her profession, Deputy Lindstadt is an executive board member of the Mako Soccer Club and has volunteered countless hours to children’s after school athletic programs.
Mrs. Diann Platt
Mrs. Diann Platt is a graduate of Indian River Community College where she earned an Associate of Arts degree. She became a member of the Sheriff’s Office in 1994 when she was hired for the position of human resource clerk. In this position, she distributed employment applications, tracked applicants, and filed correspondence and documents. She also assisted in creating the current vacancy/manpower report that is still utilized today.
In 1997, Mrs. Platt was promoted to secretary to the director of the Department of Administration. In addition to providing secretarial duties to the director, she also provided assistance to the commander and inspector of the Administrative Services Division and, temporarily, to the lieutenant of the Training Unit. Her regular responsibilities included maintaining the agency’s current vacancy/manpower report, completing survey requests, and maintaining and coordinating risograph equipment usage. She also coordinated and assisted with mail distribution and provided clerical support to the front desk volunteers at administrative headquarters.
Mrs. Platt was promoted to executive secretary in 1999, still assigned to the director of the Department of Administration. She maintained most of her previous workload, but was assigned the responsibility of inputting data pertaining to false alarm charges and assisted with transcribing documents and re-developing the agency’s employment application. Mrs. Platt was recently reassigned and now reports to the director of the Department of Finance and Technology. She looks forward to the new challenges of this assignment. In addition to executive secretarial duties and position control, she will assist in the various functions of the Department.
Throughout her employment with the Sheriff’s Office, Mrs. Platt has represented the agency in several of its charitable activities. She has participated in the Exchange Club C.A.S.T.L.E. Chili Cook-offs and assisted with the Sheriff’s Office 2004 Christmas Family Project. After assisting the agency’s United Way campaign coordinators for several years, Mrs. Platt assumed the role of coordinator for that effort in 2004. Her coordination of this endeavor was highly successful, raising $15,336.33 in pledged contributions from agency members. Also in 2004, she was recognized as an American Red Cross Hero for her fundraising efforts.
Mrs. Platt has participated on the Sheriff’s Office awards and job fair committees and coordinated an employee picnic. She has attended numerous seminars during her employment with the Sheriff’s Office and has received several internal awards for her job performance.
