Statement from St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara regarding today's events
This morning, a St. Lucie County Deputy Sheriff, who is a member of a U.S. Marshals Task Force, was injured in the line of duty.
St. Lucie County Sheriff's Detective Paul Pearson, 33, an 11-year veteran of the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, was shot once in the left shoulder while working as a member of the Task Force to serve warrants at a home in Sebring, in Highlands County.

The injuries were not life-threatening.
Both officers have received medical treatment. Detective Pearson was released from a Sebring medical facility shortly after 11 a.m. He is expected to make a full recovery.
I and several members of my command staff traveled to Highlands County to be with the victims and to wait with family and agency members until Detective Pearson was released from the medical facility.
Several arrests took place.
