Sheriff Mascara releases identity of woman whose body was found at canal bank Wednesday, asks for publicís help to solve womanís murder
Jennifer Mae Alvarez, 24, of 638 S.W. Ivanhoe Drive, Port St. Lucie, is the woman whose partially clothed body was found beside a north-St. Lucie County canal bank Wednesday, Sheriff Mascara announced this morning.

“We believe Ms. Alvarez is the victim of a homicide,” Sheriff Mascara said. “At this time, we are not releasing details of the possible cause of death.

“Despite the information detectives have discovered so far, I am asking for the public’s help in solving this crime. We need much more information than we currently have,” said Sheriff Mascara.

He asked those with information to call St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office detective offices at 772-462-3230, or to anonymously leave information, call Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-TIPS (8477.) If a Crime Stopper tip leads to an arrest, the tipster can be eligible for a cash reward without having to give his or her identity.

Ms. Alvarez was arrested Sept. 28, 2007, by the Port St. Lucie Police Department for aggravated domestic battery (a felony) and violation of a domestic violence injunction (a misdemeanor.)

Passersby found Ms. Alvarez’s body late Wednesday night beside a canal at West Angle Road near the Florida’s Turnpike Overpass (mile marker 154.) An autopsy took place Thursday.
