St. Lucie County Sheriff updates search for missing/endangered 87-year-old woman
An 87-year-old woman in the early states of dementia, left her home around 7:45 this morning, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
"We are asking for the public's help to find Delores Cairns, of 7 Universidad Lane, Spanish Lakes Riverfront," said the Sheriff. "That is a residential community south of Prima Vista Boulevard on the west side of U.S.1. She is a white female, 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighing 125 pounds, with white hair and blue eyes. The only clothing description we have is that she was wearing a blue windbreaker and carrying a large black purse. She possibly walks with a limp."
Around noon today, she was seen in a taxi cab in the area of U.S.1 and Midway Road looking to rent a motel room, Sheriff Mascara said. "Our detectives have been checking motels, but we still haven't found Ms. Cairns."
Anyone with information is asked to call 9-1-1 in St. Lucie County.
Patrol deputies have searched for Ms. Cairns, and a Sheriff's helicopter has also been used in the search. In addition, neighbors who know her have looked in the neighborhood using golf carts. Also, deputies have checked hospitals, mental health facilities, bingo parlors, arcades and nearby businesses.
Pre-recorded telephone calls with details of the missing woman have gone to residents of her neighborhood.
