St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office jail inmate work crew will clean up in Port St. Lucie after Freedom Fest, according to Sheriff Mascara
After Port St. Lucie's Freedom Fest on July 4 (Thursday), carefully supervised St. Lucie County jail inmates will do the clean-up, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
"The city contacted us asking for this service, and we will be glad to provide it," Sheriff Mascara said. "The inmate work crew does hundreds of thousands of dollars of community service work every year free of charge. We are pleased to do our part to Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful."
The inmate work crew assists municipal and county governments in St. Lucie County as well as non-profit community organizations.
The work crew will pick up trash after Freedom Fest. On Friday, the work crew, supervised by St. Lucie County deputies, will pick up trash throughout the City Center area and along Village Green Drive.
"This will save the city about $1,000 and give some city workers a well-earned day off," the Sheriff said.
