St. Lucie County Sheriff's deputies and Fort Pierce Police Officers this morning apprehended a man reported to have been shooting from a southbound car on I-95 in Indian River and St. Lucie counties, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.

"The man has been identified as Thomas Patrick Ellis. He is a white male whose date of birth is March 21, 1957," Sheriff Mascra said. "His address is 2101 Glendale Ave., Port Charlotte. We have recovered a gun. We took the man to our detective offices where we are now questioning him. So far, it does not appear that any vehicles or persons were hit by gunfire. The reason for the gunfire is unknown at this time."

At 7:47 this morning, a southbound motorist on I-95 in Indian River County called 9-1-1 to report a man shooting from a southbound car on the interstate. The phone caller followed the suspect into St. Lucie County. There, deputies and officers, as well as troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol  followed him as he left I-95 at Okeechbee Road (State Road 70) and Jenkins Road and went to the Race Trac gas station.

The man went into the store, and that is where he was taken into custody by deputies and Fort Pierce officers at 8:33 a.m.
