St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara asks for public's help to identify shoplifter
On Nov. 21, a woman accompanied by her daughter loaded a shopping cart with almost $500 worth of items from Nelson Family Market on Midway Road near U.S.1 and walked the items to her car without paying for them.

St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara is asking for the public's help to identify the suspect who fled in her car (without the stolen items) before deputies could arrive. When she sped out of the store parking lot, she injured the store owner Dan Nelson.

"The woman in the surveillance photos is a white female, about 30 years old, weighing 110 - 120 pounds, with blond hair, wearing a black long sleeve shirt and blue jeans," Sheriff Mascara said. "The juvenile accompanying her appears to be 7 to 10 years old. Mr. Nelson, in trying to keep her from driving away, sustained a back injury."

Anyone who can identify the suspect is asked to call St. Lucie County Sheriff's detectives at 772-462-3230. If  someone has information and wants to give it confidentially, and to be eligible for a cash reward if the tip leads to an arrest, the number to call is 1-800-273-8477 (1-800-273-TIPS.) That's the number of Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers, which can also receive tips on its website, tcwatch.org, or by texting "tip 151" to 274637.

In the incident, store employees stopped the woman before she could leave with the stolen items, which were returned to the store while employees called 9-1-1. The employees tried to keep the woman from driving away in her older maroon sedan, possibly a Nissan Altima, but she was able to drive away before deputies got to the store.
