St. Lucie County Sheriff's Deputies arrest 78 felons in statewide sweep that saw more than 12,000 arrests, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara
St. Lucie County deputies arrested 78 felons in the recently concluded statewide "Operation Felon Sweep," according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.

"Sheriffs throughout Florida combined forces in a three-week operation and arrested more than 12,000 criminals," Sheriff Mascara said. "Here is St. Lucie County, members of the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office arrested 78 felons."

The goal of the statewide operation was to get violent felons off the streets.

The statewide operation took place from Sept. 28 - Oct. 22.

"Throughout the year, the Sheriff's Office works hard to arrest felons who have been named in warrants signed by judges," Sheriff Mascara said. "When we have the opportunity to be part of a statewide Florida Sheriffs operation targeting these felons, we are happy to participate."

The operation was one of a series of activities by the Florida Sheriffs Task Force, which pools resources from all of Florida's counties to address specific areas of concern.
