St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara promotes Jeff Buchanan and John Parow to Sergeant
 
Jeff Buchanan and John Parow are being promoted to the rank of Sergeant by St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.

"John Parow and Jeff Buchanan have demonstrated excellent law enforcement and leadership skills," Sheriff Mascara said. "I am confident both will excel in their new responsibilities."

Sgt. Jeff Buchanan

Sgt. Jeff Buchanan is a native of Vernon Parish, Louisiana. He was born at Fort Polk. He went to high school in Fort Pierce and graduated from Indian River State College where he studied criminal justice.

He joined the Sheriff's Office as a Detention Deputy in 1985. Six years later, he joined the Uniform Patrol Division where he served in the Traffic Unit and Zone Patrol. In 1998, he became a detective where he had a variety of assignments including Internet Crimes Against Children. His most recent responsibilities were in the Economic Crime Unit.

In the aftermath of the storms of 2004 and 2005, he handled hundreds of contractor fraud cases. He also conducted investigations into all kinds of fraud, including scams targeting senior citizens.

He has received many departmental honors including Exceptional Duty, several Unit Citations, Detective of the Quarter, and Detective of the Year.  His contains letters of praise from financial institutions, law agencies and members of the public.

His supervisors have described him as a hard-working team player with excellent investigative and human diplomacy skills.

Sgt. John Parow

Sgt. John Parow is a native of Potsdam, N.Y., and grew up in Florida. He graduated from South Fork High School in Stuart. He graduated from Indian River State College in Criminal Justice. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Warner Southern College in Lake Wales.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for five years as a military policeman.

He joined the Sheriff's Office in 1999 as a member of the Uniform Patrol Division. In 2002 he became a detective where he held a variety of assignments including Internet Crimes Against Children.

In 2008, he was trained in computer forensics by the U.S. Secret Service.

He is a member of the shoot team and the cold case homicide team.

 He has received numerous Unit Citations and commendations and Detective of the Quarter.

His supervisors have characterized him as possessing a keen knowledge of his subject matter, detail-oriented and an exceptional report writer whose decisions are always well thought out.
