St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office investigating traffic crash with one fatality, according to Sheriff Mascara
The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Sunday night traffic crash involving the death of a pedestrian in the Indian River Estates subdivision in unincorporated St. Lucie County, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
"Charges are pending because the investigation is not yet complete," Sheriff Mascara said. "The crash took place between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Sunday."
Deputies said the victim, Brittany Hare, 14, of 5703 Palm Drive, was walking south in the 5500 block of Palm Drive on the east side of the road when Jesse Mcinerney, 52 (DOB 2/22/60), driving south, drifted from the southbound lane of Palm Drive and struck the victim from behind, carrying her more than 100 feet.
A deputy and a witness performed CPR on the victim until St. Lucie County Fire-Rescue arrived and took her to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Deputies have determined that Mcinerney, of 331 Johnston Street, Fort Pierce, was driving in excess of the speed limit, which is 25 miles per hour.
The investigation is continuing.
