St. Lucie County Sheriff's detectives shut down elaborate north St. Lucie County marijuana grow house, Sheriff Mascara announces
St. Lucie County Sheriff's deputies this morning shut down an elaborate marijuana "grow house" in a north-county residential neighborhood and arrested a Vero Beach man, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
"Drug traffickers often try to locate marijuana grow houses in quiet neighborhoods," Sheriff Mascara said. "That was the case with the grow house at 5145 Tozour Road. We are committed to shutting down these grow houses wherever they are located in St. Lucie County."
Deputies entered the home around 8:30 this morning to serve a search warrant.
Deputies detained Carlos Luna, 29 (DOB 9/21/1982), of 209 16th Street, Vero Beach, as he drove up to the home. He said he was taking care of the house for a friend but refused to answer questions.
He is charged with felony marijuana cultivation, felony marijuana possession and driving with an expired license for more than six months, a misdemeanor.
Inside the home, deputies found 24 large plants and an elaborate indoor marijuana growing operation, which was capable of generating $180,000 worth of marijuana a year.
