Substance in suspicious package delivered to St. Lucie County courthouse Friday tested negative, according to Sheriff Mascara
There were no toxic or poisonous substances in a suspicious package delivered Friday to the Clerk of Courts building at the downtown Fort Pierce St. Lucie County courthouse, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
The building was closed late Friday afternoon while the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office and Fire District investigated, Sheriff Mascara said.
"The package was taken to the Miami area for testing overnight by the state Health Department, and the tests were negative," Sheriff Mascara said. As a precaution, eight people who came in contact with the package were taken Friday to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute.
The investigation into the package's origins continues, the Sheriff said.
