St. Lucie County deputies arrest Fort Pierce area couple for child neglect, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara
St. Lucie County Sheriff's deputies sent to a Fort Pierce area home to assist county animal control officers Thursday afternoon arrested the couple living there for child abuse, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
"We have charged Elizabeth Yeary, 33, and her husband Benjamin Robert Yeary, 28, with three third-degree felony counts each of child abuse," Sheriff Mascara said. "Deputies found trash, rotting food and fecal matter throughout the home, as well a variety of additional unsafe conditions."
Sheriff Mascara said deputies notified the Florida Department of Children and Families, and a representative of that department removed three children from the home. None of the children were wearing any clothes. The children were ages 2, 3 and 4.
Sheriff Mascara said: "In these tough economic times we all know it is increasingly difficult for families to maintain their lifestyle. However, when children are involved, the basics of food, clothing and shelter must be provided. If families are having difficulty with these basics, we can assist those families with finding help for them."
Animal control officers removed several dogs from the home.
