St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara asks public's help to find missing 17-year-old autistic boy
St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara is asking for the public's help to find a missing 17-year-old autistic boy who lives in a South Hutchinson Island, St. Lucie County, condo.
"I am asking anyone with information to call 9-1-1 in St. Lucie County," Sheriff Mascara said.
The boy is autistic, Sheriff Mascara said. He is known to go swimming in the Ocean, but not late at night. He also is known to wander.
"John Grover (Joseph) Tabor, 17, of 8800 South Ocean Drive (Island Dunes), Jensen Beach, St. Lucie County, lives with his father, John Tabor," said Sheriff Mascara. "Thursday night, Mr. Tabor returned home from work at 6:30 p.m., saw his son's backpack in the home and assumed he was home."
Then, Sheriff Mascara said, Mr. Tabor went to bed.
At 12:56 a.m., one of the tenants at Island Dunes found the boy's keys, school identification and flip-flops at the end of the boardwalk to the beach. He took those items to the Island Dunes security guard who called 9-1-1.
St. Lucie County Sheriff's patrol deputies and detectives have been searching all night on foot. Also used in the search are a St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office K-9 team, a Martin County Sheriff's Office K-9 bloodhound team, a St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office helicopter, a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter and a Coast Guard boat. * * *
