March 21, 2007 – Less than 24 hours after a Monday night drive-by shooting of a 15-year-old boy north of Fort Pierce, St. Lucie County Sheriff’s detectives arrested the gunman and the owner of the car used in the shooting.
“I’m extremely proud of the round-the-clock work of our detectives to bring the perpetrators of the murder to justice,” said Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
The day after the first arrests, deputies arrested the owner of the car used in the shooting.
Arrested for first-degree murder was Glenn D. Blackstone, 17, of Fort Pierce. He is confined at the St. Lucie Regional Juvenile Detention Center, Fort Pierce. Also arrested were Roman D. White, 18, and Marquette McDuffy, 17, both of Fort Pierce, and both charged with being a principal in the first degree to murder.
The investigation revealed that Blackstone fatally shot Charles H. Jones, 15, of Juanita Avenue, north of Fort Pierce, using a car owned by White and driven by McDuffy. The fatal shooting took place on Sheraton Drive about a quarter-mile from Jones’ home.
Sheriff Mascara said the shooting was gang-related and stemmed from a dispute between Jones and Blackstone at the recent St. Lucie County Fair.
