St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara invites women to sign up for self-defense class taught by deputies
Women are invited to sign up for a September self-defense class for women taught by St. Lucie County Sheriff's deputies, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.

"The course is called 'R.A.D.,' which stands for 'Rape Aggression Defense.' It is an empowering program that helps women enhance their personal defense options in case they are attacked," said Sheriff Mascara.

The course will take place Sept. 20, 21, 22, 27 and 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the roll call room of the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, 4700 West Midway Road, Sheriff Mascara said. The minimum age for students is 13. There can be no more than 16 students.

Sheriff's deputies who are certified R.A.D. instructors will teach the class.

The non-refundable course fee is $40 per person, and $20 for each additional family member.

Those who want to take the class may obtain a registration form at the web address: stluciesheriff.com/rad_women or by calling Linda Smeykal, St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office Training Unit, at 772-462-3604.

Registration forms and fees can be delivered to the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, 4700 West Midway Road, Fort Pierce, during business hours.  * * *
