The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office is offering licensed teenage drivers a training course to improve their ability to drive defensively and safely.
"The Sheriffs of Florida developed the Teen Driver Challenge because car crashes are the leading killer of American teenagers," said Sheriff Mascara. "This program has graduated more than 3,000 Florida teens, which makes our highways safer for every driver and car passenger in the state. The July 7 class filled up so quickly that we are offering another class in August."
The class will take place Thursday, Aug. 18 and Saturday, Aug. 20. The Aug. 18 class begins at 5:30 p.m. The session is four hours in the classroom at St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office headquarters, 4700 West Midway Road, Fort Pierce. The following Saturday, Aug. 20, at 8 a.m. the class consists of eight hours of hands-on training at Indian River State College's Treasure Coast Public Safety Complex, 4600 Kirby Loop Road.
Classes are free, but space is limited. Registration forms found on the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office website or obtained at our main office must be completed and turned into the Sheriff’s Office by Aug. 14. There is no registration by phone.
