Half-million-dollar cocaine bust resulted from community’s help
Sheriff Ken J. Mascara credits help from the community with the arrest of a husband-and-wife cocaine delivery operation and the seizure of half a million dollars worth of powdered cocaine March 3 in Port St. Lucie.

An informant’s tip led Sheriff’s narcotics investigators to the driveway of a home in the 2300 block of Heatherwood Circle, in the Port St. Lucie community of St. Lucie West.

"We were able to make this arrest due to the help of someone who gave us a tip", Sheriff Mascara said. "We welcome any information that will lead to the arrest of drug dealers in St. Lucie County."

In the driveway of the Heatherwood home, detectives arrested Candace Holloway Harper, 26, and her husband, Gerome Charles Harper, both of Miami. The couple had 522 grams of cocaine, worth a total of $500,000, in two packages in the trunk of their black Honda sedan.

K-9 Punky, a black Labrador retriever, trained to sniff out drugs, did just that before investigators opened the trunk.

The two face charges of trafficking in cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
