St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara announces arrest of Port St. Lucie resident Eric Joseph Cogan for robbing Chase Bank Thursday afternoon and trying to rob TD Bank Thursday night, both on U.S.1
A St. Lucie County Sheriff's deputy tackled a would-be bank robber outside the TD Bank at 8000 South U.S.1 just after 8 p.m. Thursday, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
"Eric Joseph Cogan, 33 (DOB 4/20/78), of 6733 Woods Island Circle, Port St. Lucie, has admitted robbing the Chase Bank near Prima Vista Boulevard and U.S.1 just after 11 a.m. Thursday," Sheriff Mascara said. "He went up to a teller just before 8 p.m. Thursday at the TD Bank at 8000 South U.S.1 and passed a note to the teller. Then he noticed St. Lucie County Deputy Sheriff William Morash, who was on duty inside the bank."
Deputy Morash tried to speak with Cogan, who ran outside, chased by Deputy Morash. The deputy tackled Cogan about 200 feet from the bank entrance.
The Chase Bank branch that Cogan robbed Thursday morning is slightly more than half a mile north of the TD Bank where Deputy Morash foiled Cogan's robbery attempt Thursday night.
Cogan was booked into the St. Lucie County jail Thursday night under $20,000 bond. At a bond hearing this morning, County Court Judge Thomas A. Walsh raised Cogan's bond to $200,000.
