58-year-old St. Lucie County jail inmate dies apparently of natural causes, according to Sheriff Mascara
A 58-year-old inmate confined at the St. Lucie County jail's medical wing died this morning apparently of natural causes, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
St. Lucie County fire-rescue workers pronounced Allan A. Harris, 58 (DOB 4/21/52), of 2598 S.E. Hamden Road, Port St. Lucie, dead at the jail at 9:48 this morning.
Fort Pierce police arrested Harris Dec. 18 for trespassing. Due to a variety of known medical conditions, he was housed at the jail's medical wing.
This morning, a jail nurse, who was checking Harris's cell at 15-minute intervals, noticed that he was not moving at 9:26 a.m. She entered his cell and immediately began trying to revive Harris while others called for a St. Lucie County fire-rescue ambulance.
Attempts to revive Harris were not successful.
An autopsy will take place Monday or Tuesday.
