St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara invites the public to period-authentic Civil War battle "The Raid on Fort Pierce" Dec. 4 and 5 to benefit Sheriff's Explorer Post
A period-authentic Civil War battle, "The Raid of Fort Pierce," will take place Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 4 and 5, to benefit the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Explorer Post 400, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
"This is the tenth year the Explorer Post has presented this unique event," said Sheriff Mascara. "Admission proceeds will benefit the Explorer Post which provides a structured, supervised introduction to the world of law enforcement for young people."
Three hundred "actors" from throughout the state will participate in the event at the Savannas Recreation Area, 1400 East Midway Road, Fort Pierce.
On Saturday, Dec. 4, the event will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with the main battle at 2 p.m. On Sunday, Dec. 5, the event will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the main battle at 1 p.m.
The battle's participants are from the Eighth Florida Company C, 75th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, featuring period Civil War uniforms and weapons.
Other activities in addition to the battles include living history demonstrations, authentic war camps, a ladies' tea, a blacksmith, food to buy and more.
Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 7 through 12, and free for those younger than 6. Parking is free.
