A fight that broke out late this morning at the (outdoor) patio near the cafeteria at Fort Pierce Westwood High School has resulted in 18 arrests, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
The cause of the fight is unknown.
St. Lucie County School Resource Deputies arrested 17 boys and one girl, charging each with the misdemeanor of disrupting a school function, Sheriff Mascara said.
The fight began around 11:30 this morning. The school was placed on a limited lockdown for the rest of the school day. Students were able to go from one classroom to another and to and from the cafeteria, but only one classroom at a time.
The students were taken to the St. Lucie Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Fort Pierce, a juvenile holding facility operated by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. * * *
