St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara advises southbound motorists on I-95 north of Midway Road exit to exercise caution due to diesel fuel spill on roadway
(Posted at 6 a.m.) Southbound I-95 drivers on St. Lucie County just north of Midway Road should exercise caution because there is spilled diesel fuel on the road, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
"Just after 5:15 this morning, a southbound Wal-Mart tractor trailer struck a metal object in the road, rupturing the truck's fuel tank," Sheriff Mascara said. "There is spilled diesel fuel on the southbound lanes of I-95, the southbound off ramp and Glades Cutoff Road east of I-5 to the Wal-Mart distribution center."
Deputies are posted along the road to direct traffic which is flowing slowly. The road remains open at this time.
The St. Lucie County Fire District's HazMat Team is on scene, and federal authorities have been notified, Sheriff Mascara said.
