26-year-old man previously arrested for pornography possession now faces charges that he molested 9-year-old girl, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara
The 26-year-old Fort Pierce man arrested by St. Lucie County Sheriff's investigators in late April for more than a dozen counts of possession and distributing child pornography now faces charges that he molested a 9-year-old girl, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
"Thursday, Sheriff's detectives charged Anthony James Baez with two counts of lewd molestation of the girl and two counts of lewd behavior toward the same girl," Sheriff Mascara said. "The Internet and pornography-related crimes are serious. But the charges that Mr. Baez molested a girl who often stayed at his home are more serious and more disturbing."
Baez, who has been confined at the St. Lucie County jail since his April 27 arrest, now faces a total of 17 felonies, said Sheriff Mascara. "Thirteen involve possession of child pornography, following his arrest by Sheriff's detectives April 27. The other four are the charges on which detectives arrested him Thursday."
The total bond on Baez stands at $1,125,000.
Baez was working at a Firestone tire store on Bayshore Boulevard, Port St. Lucie, when Sheriff's Internet crimes investigators, armed with a warrant, searched the tire store where Baez had downloaded the pornography to a store computer. Other store employees were not involved in the computer and pornography crimes, Sheriff Mascara said.
"Following arrest, detectives continued their investigation and learned that Baez had molested a 9-year-old girl who often stayed at the Baez home," Sheriff Mascara said. "That led to the arrest of Mr. Baez on Thursday for four felonies. Two of them involved illegal touching of the 9-year-old girl. Two others, also felonies, relate to Mr. Baez's attempts to get the girl to touch his private parts."
