St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara releases identity of man whose body was found in a drainage ditch this morning in Fort Pierce
Patrick W. Vanover, 38 (DOB 8/10/71), of 2810 Placid Ave., Fort Pierce, is the man whose body was discovered in a Fort Pierce drainage canal this morning, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
"Mr. Vanover had been missing for two days from his home, which is less than half a mile from the ditch at 25th Street and Cortez Boulevard where a construction worker found the body this morning," Sheriff Mascara said.
The construction worker called 9-1-1 shortly after 7 this morning to report seeing the body in the ditch. The body was extensively decomposed, Sheriff Mascara said.
"The autopsy was this morning," said Sheriff Mascara. "Because of the decomposition of the body, it was not immediately possibly to determine the cause of death. After the Medical Examiner's Office gets out-of-town lab test results from tissue and fluid samples, we may get a better idea of the cause of death."
The Sheriff said that there was no evidence that the death was the result of any criminal activity.
