St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office “elves” wrap record number of toys for needy families

Members of the media can see St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office became Christmas elves in December, collecting a record number of toys and other gifts for needy families in St. Lucie County.


“We wrapped a record number of Christmas toys for needy families in St. Lucie County,” said Ken J. Mascara, Sheriff and Executive Elf. “Members of the public, businesses and members of the Sheriff's Office contribute the toys, or money to buy toys, or both,” said the Sheriff. “We’ve been doing this for years.


“This year, the people of St. Lucie County have been unusually generous, and we have literally a mountain of toys to wrap,” said Sheriff Mascara.


In cooperation with the St. Lucie County School District, needy families are identified each year, and School Resource Deputies deliver the presents.


This year, the Sheriff's Office assisted 72 families with 250 children.
