St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara announces resumption of "Operation Sundown"
The intensified traffic enforcement operation known as "Operation Sundown" resumes Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. on Prima Vista Boulevard and the 8000 block of South U.S.1 in St. Lucie County, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
"We initiated Operation Sunday earlier this month to encourage all motorists to obey speeding and other traffic safety laws," Sheriff Mascara said.
"Our first phase of Operation Sundown was two weeks ago, when the Sheriff's Office, joined by the Florida Highway Patrol and Port St. Lucie Police Department, made 140 contacts with drivers, ranging from verbal warnings to two criminal arrests," said the Sheriff "Most of the 50 moving violations were for speeding."
Sheriff Mascara said the traffic safety and speeding laws are on the books to protect the public, and that is why the Sheriff's Office enforces them.
