Public invited to "The Raid on Fort Pierce" to benefit St. Lucie County Sheriff's Explorer Post 400, with School Day (for students) Dec. 11 and the battle enactment Dec. 12 and 13
What: "The Raid on Fort Pierce," Dec. 12 and 13, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. enactment of a fictional Civil War battle in period uniforms and replica period weapons to benefit St. Lucie County Sheriff's Explorer Post 400. This is a period-authentic battle hosted by 8th Florida Company C 75th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

What else: On Friday, Dec. 11, there will be a "living history school day" from 9 to 11 a.m. attended by school students with demonstrations of artillery/infantry, period cooking, blacksmith, uniforms, authentic camps, calvary and more.

Where: Savannas Recreation Area, 1400 East Midway Road, Fort Pierce. Take I-95 exit 126-East, Midway Road (CR-712), go east (crossing U.S.1) to the recreation area.

Why: This event is a benefit for the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Explorer Post 400. Proceeds will help the Explorers attend out-of-town Explorer conferences and competitions. More than 100 children are members of the Explorer Post, where they learn about law enforcement as a career, assist with community events and take part in supervised activities that build character and patriotism.
