Public asked to help identify copper wire thieves
One night last month, one night earlier this week, and yet again this afternoon, someone stole copper wire worth thousands of dollars from the yard of a St. Lucie County electrical contractor.

There are no pictures of the thieves from the first theft. But St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara is releasing a surveillance photo of the two men who stole copper wire earlier this week from Matula Elexctric Co., 1010 West Midway Road, Fort Pierce.

"If you know who stole the copper wire from any of the thefts, please call the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office's detectives at 772-462-3230 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-8477 ('TIPS')," Sheriff Mascara said.

The company installed an infrared surveillance camera between the first theft and the other two thefts.

A third copper wire theft took place this afternoon shortly before 2:30 p.m. Deputies have established a perimeter in the White City neighborhood where Matula Electric Co. is located.

Anyone calling Crime Stoppers doesn't have to give his or her name to be eligible for a cash reward if the tip leads to an arrest or recovery of property.
