St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara announces dates for “Teen Driver Challenge”
Once again, the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office’s “Teen Driver Challenge” program will take place Thursday, Sept. 10, and Saturday, Sept. 12.
A classroom session takes place at the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, 4700 West Midway Road, Fort Pierce, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10. Then comes a full day of driving exercises Saturday, Sept. 12, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex on Kirby Loop Road.
“The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Sheriffs Association are sponsoring this excellent 12-hour course that will make young motorists better drivers,” said Sheriff Mascara. “Four hours of classroom instruction are followed two days later by eight hours of hands-on driving under carefully supervised conditions.”
Any licensed driver between 16 and 21 years old can participate. Those who want more information or to register for the course are asked to contact Sgt. Andrew McIntosh of the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office Training Unit at 772-462-3215.
All participants must have a vehicle and a valid driver's license.
Sheriff Mascara said, “The Teen Driver Challenge is a program that is taught by certified, law enforcement driving instructors from the Sheriff’s Office. They will provide young drivers with professional instruction.”
The Teen Driver Challenge was developed by the Florida Sheriffs Association and several Sheriff’s Offices throughout the state to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries suffered each year by young drivers on Florida roadways.
