Tuesday afternoon Fort Pierce two-car accident sends two motorists to hospital, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara
A Tuesday afternoon two-car auto accident in Fort Pierce sent both drivers to the trauma center at a local hospital, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident that took place at 3:25 p.m. at Hartman Road and Virginia Avenue, Fort Pierce, Sheriff Mascara said.
The driver of a 2008 Mazda Miata, who lost her life in the crash, was driving south on Hartman Road preparing to turn left on Virginia Avenue when a 2008 Saturn van, driven by Chelsea Hampson, 18, of 4733 - 61st Circle, Vero Beach, was heading west on Virginia Avenue.
According to Sheriff’s investigators, the driver of the Miata failed to yield at the intersection. The Saturn van struck the Miata broadside, flipping the van onto its side.
St. Lucie County Fire Rescue workers took both motorists to the trauma center at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute.
Deputies are not releasing the name of the driver of the Miata at this time due to the severity of her injuries.
