Church van accident Sunday night sends 18 to hospital, none with life threatening inujries, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara
A collision between a church van and a motorist driving a minivan in Fort Pierce Sunday night sent 18 to area hospitals, none with life-threatening injuries, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.

The collision took place at 9:20 p.m. Sunday at 25th Street and Edwards Road,Fort Pierce, Sheriff Mascara said.

Sixteen people were in a Ford E-250 van owned by a Port St. Lucie church called Iglesia de Cristo Misionera, of 1390 S.W. Dorchester Street, Port St. Lucie, Sheriff Mascara said. All sixteen were taken to area hospitals.

The car that collided with the church van was a Pontiac minivan and had two occupants, the driver and his passenger. Both were transported to area hospitals.

The driver of the minivan violated the right-of-way of the church van, and charges are pending, Sheriff Mascara said.
