Operation Safe Medicine Cabinet Statistics: more than 200,000 pills safely disposed of
On March 14, 2009, Operation Safe Medicine Cabinet took place with members of the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Lucie County Fire District. Four locations were identified for citizens to safety dispose of unused or outdated prescription medication. Those who dropped off their medications received $5 gift certificates for either CVS, Walgreens or Wal-Mart.
A total of 411 persons dropped off medication, which was estimated to be over 200,000 pills.
Sheriff Mascara and Fire Chief Parrish felt this operation was an overwhelming success and it shows that there is a need for this type of service to our citizens.
Sheriff Mascara would like to remind those persons who were not able to drop off their medications that they can continue to drop off medications at the Sheriff’s Office Master Deputy Steve Roberts Building located at 4700 West Midway Road, Fort Pierce, Florida. However, those dropping off medications will not receive gift cards.
