One marijuana “grow house” leads to another until 11 are shut down

The night of May will go down in St. Lucie County history as the most productive evening ever for shutting down indoor marijuana growing operations.

When Port St. Lucie police were called to one neighborhood where a machete-wielding man chased another man down the street, police discovered a series of marijuana “grow houses” in a neighborhood that literally reeked of marijuana.

St. Lucie County Sheriff’s deputies and DEA agents got involved, and when the night ended, nine grow houses in the City of Port St. Lucie and two in unincorporated areas of St. Lucie County had been raided and dismantled.

Indoor growing operations have become more popular with drug dealers in recent years because they can produce high-yield marijuana in facilities that cannot be detected from the air.

Investigators are continuing their inquiry.
