St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara invites members of the public to sign up for Sheriff’s Citizens Academy, classes start Feb. 25
St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara invites members of the public to sign up for the Sheriff’s Citizens Academy to learn details of how the Sheriff’s Office works and the services it provides.
“I want county residents to have a detailed understanding of their Sheriff’s Office, how it operates and how people can participate in programs to stay safe,” Sheriff Mascara said. “Only 20 seats are available for the 39-hour course, which begins Feb. 25.”
People who want to participate have three ways to get an application:
- Call Training Unit Secretary Linda Smeykal at 772-462-3604.
- Visit the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office web site at www.stluciesheriff.com. From the drop-down Community menu, select Citizens Academy. At the bottom of the Citizens Academy page, select “Citizens Academy Application.”
- Visit the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office administrative offices, 4700 West Midway Road, Fort Pierce, and ask the receptionist for a Citizens Academy application.
Topics include important laws the Sheriff’s Office enforces, a detailed look at Sheriff’s Office operations, crime scene investigation, the county’s detention system, the SWAT Team, K-9 Unit and courthouse security.
