Portion of Glades Cutoff Road was closed for 2-1/2 hours today due to auto crash
A portion of Glades Cutoff Road south of Midway Road in St. Lucie County was closed for 2-1/2 hours this afternoon due to a late morning traffic crash, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.

Deputies were investigating the accident in which Reuben K. Bullard, DOB 9/19/62, of 10300 Orange Ave., Fort Pierce, driving a 2008 black Dodge pickup truck, collided with a red Peterbilt dump truck driving by Jose Vargas, DOB 11/19/58, of 3438 S.W. San Giorgio Street, Port St. Lucie, sending the dump truck into a ditch.

St. Lucie County Fire-Rescue EMTs transported Vargas to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Bullard, whom deputies found at fault in the 11:30 a.m. crash, was treated at the scene and released.

Charges are pending.

Deputies said Bullard was southbound on Glades Cutoff Road and drifted across the center line, striking the dump truck in its left front tire, blowing the tire. Vargas veered across the southbound lanes, hit a guard rail a and rolled over into a ditch where the truck wound up on its left side.

Bullard’s pickup truck went across the northbound lanes and wound up straddling a guard rail.

The road was closed to allow a  wrecker to safely get the dump truck out of the ditch.
