St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara announces arrest of north-St. Lucie County man for 2d degree murder and aggravated child abuse in death of 2-month-old son
A north-St. Lucie County man is being held at the county jail under $1 million bond this morning, charged with second-degree murder and aggravated child abuse, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
“Sheriff’s detectives Wednesday night arrested Casey Doran Gross, 21 (DOB 8/7/87), of 5004 LaSalle Street, Apt. B, Fort Pierce, in the death of his two-month-old son over the weekend,” Sheriff Mascara said. “It was not apparent until detectives received the results of the autopsy conducted Tuesday that the child’s death was caused by a crushing blow to the head.”
County Court Judge Kathryn Nelson set bond at $1 million this morning at Gross’s first appearance.
Shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday, deputies were called to the home of Gina and Casey Gross because the baby was not breathing. Attempts by deputies to revive the child were not successful, and county fire-rescue workers took the child to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, where doctors pronounced the child dead.
