Autopsy results indicate cause of death was drowning for woman whose body was found Sunday in the ocean, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara
An autopsy late this morning determined that drowning was the cause of death in the case of a woman whose body was recovered Sunday afternoon by Coast Guardsmen 24 miles east of the Sebastian Inlet, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
“Detectives from the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office and Fort Lauderdale Police Department attended the autopsy,” said Sheriff Mascara. “It has not been determined whether the body is that of the woman whose name has been released by the Fort Lauderdale police as a missing person.”
Coast Guardsmen Sunday afternoon brought the body to the Fort Pierce Coast Guard station.
“The body had no obvious signs of trauma,” Sheriff Mascara said.
“If anyone has information that can help our detectives determine the identity of the woman, we ask those with information to call 9-1-1 in St. Lucie County or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-8477 (TIPS),” Sheriff Mascara said.
