Sheriff Mascara, Fire Chief Parrish launch Operation Safe Medicine Cabinet
A cooperative effort of the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office and St. Lucie County Fire Department gives county residents a safe and convenient way to dispose of unwanted, expired or unknown prescription drugs.

“Operation Safe Medicine Cabinet” gets under way Saturday (Aug. 2) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. County residents can drop off unwanted prescription or other medication at eight locations throughout St. Lucie County.

Sheriff Ken J. Mascara and Fire Chief Ron Parrish launched the program to give people a safe and convenient way to get rid of drugs they don’t need. The Sheriff’s Office will incinerate the drugs.

People who drop off drugs, no questions asked, will receive a $5 gift certificate from participating underwriters, Wal-Mart, Walgreens or CVS Pharmacy.

After Saturday, people can drop off their drugs during normal business hours (no weekends or holidays) at the headquarters of the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, 4700 West Midway Road, Fort Pierce, located between the U.S. post office and the community mental health center three miles west of U.S.1 and three miles east of I-95.
