Citizen Ride-a-Long

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office encourages community interest and involvement in the law enforcement process and the daily activities of its deputies.  To further community interest and assist in educating the citizens, the Sheriff’s Office offers a Citizen Ride-Along Program. Persons under the age of 18 are prohibited from participating in this program. Requests will be screened to ensure they are based upon legitimate civic or educational reasons. A check of arrest files will be conducted. Requests will be denied where there is reason to believe that approval would not be in the best interest of the public or the Sheriff’s Office.

You must provide the following information, along with the date and shift you would like to participate as an observer, allowing five (5) working days for your request to be processed and scheduled. Once the request is processed, you will be notified as to the time you are to meet the assigned deputy at the Sheriff’s Office, 4700 West Midway Road, Fort Pierce. Proper attire to participate will be slacks or jeans (no shorts) and a collar shirt. This program is limited to a four hour time limit.

The process to participate in a ride-a-long include four parts:

  1. Complete the request form
  2. Complete an online security awareness training
  3. Schedule an appointment to be fingerprinted
  4. Receive confirmation of your scheduled ride-a-long date

All four steps must be completed in order to participate in a ride-a-long.
